The Doomed Bird of Providence are finishing up their fifth album. We are really happy with how it is coming together and hope you will enjoy it when it comes out. Recorded live in a Dalston recording studio with 6 Doomed Bird members, as well as other musicians from far and wide. Further news forthcoming.
In the meantime, Katie English (Isnaj Dui), JS Adams (BLK w/BEAR) and Mark Kluzek (The Doomed Bird of Providence) have formed a project called BELLIGHTNING. They have released their debut EP ‘Page of Pentacles’ on the Eukaryotic label. The EP is built around a central track originally created for an ambitious project initiated by Paul Collegio, founder of the Jukebox Heart label. This project never came to fruition as very sadly, Paul passed away. Instead, Mark, Katie and Jim created a number of tracks created around the theme of the Page of Pentacles.

“And in the middle, the dark and moody title track. It’s a tense, slow burning piece with churning strings, circular motifs coming from English’s flute, and gentle backing from Kluzick’s accordion. At times it reminds me of George Crumb or John Zorn’s string quartets, at others of Nurse With Wound’s more ambient soundscapes (Soliloquy for Lilith, Salt Marie Celeste), thanks to Adams’ electronics.”

This tiny set of songs also includes Blk w/Bear‘s JS Adams who takes care of the opening and closing sequences; surges of orchestral drones that feel akin to disparate tune-ups, swells of scattered emotion accomplishing much in a scant time-span.”
